Eric Hayes sunk a long 2 point shot with 5.2 seconds left in regulation to put the Terps up by 2 points. He failed to defend the the inbound play by Tech, thinking he had a made a 3 point shot (come on now, who's going to believe this when the game is on the line?), regardless, you defend ! The Hokies Malcom Delaney drove straight down the court with no problem and tied the game with .9 seconds left in regulation.
With 45 seconds left in double overtime and the Hokies down by 2, guard Dorenzo Hudson missed a layup, the ball bounced of a Maryland player and went out of bounds giving the ball back to the Hokies. Delaney drew a foul and the 85% shooter missed both shots (OUCH!! Is that pressure or what?). Sean Mosley sank 2 free throws to give Maryland a 4 point lead. But it wasn't over yet, VA Techs forward Jeff Allen made a 3 pointer with 29.6 seconds left in the game. Both teams continued to give it all they had, but in the long run the Terps came out on top.
Vasquez became the first Maryland player to get over 40 points in a game since Joe Smith in 1995 and the 9Th ACC player to do it in a conference game. He surpassed Albert King for third place on Maryland's all time scoring list. Now you tell me....Should we be Ranked?
