It was a beautiful Tuesday morning. I remember I was in the field with my work partner. We were listening to DC-101, we were pulling into burger king in Lorton, when I heard Dianne, one of the djs say." I hear some kind of small aircraft hit one of the towers in NY. I said to myself, wow, how can anybody do that on such a clear day. It's not even on the flight path. I then switched to WTOP news radio while Irvin went in to get something to eat. The radio was buzzing with all kinds news of about the plane. I got on my phone which was still working, still had a signal. Julia answers, she had just awaken. I told her, turn on the tv because they are saying a plane just hit one of the towers. She was all freaked out and kept telling me how the tower was burning, and she kept saying, "oh my God, people are jumping!" After a few minutes, she yelled, "oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!!!!" I asked her what happened, and she said, another plane just hit the other tower. Right there I knew it was terrorism.
We quickly left the shopping center as we were in shock, listening to the news broadcasts saying that there were several airplanes missing throughout the U.S. It was then that reports came in that the Pentagon had been hit. Everything around me was so unreal, I couldn't believe this was happening. I was scared, I was sad. We pulled up by a radio shack to see if we could watch what was happening on one of their tv's. There was a crowd of people around several tv's
watching. I saw people jumping out of windows and I caught myself crying at that moment. It was time to go home. As we got back into the truck to head back to our office building, there
were several reports of an aircraft heading towards DC, either the Capitol or the White House.
It was soo shocking. We then heard that plane crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania. We got back to the office, I got in the car and started driving home. I lived in DC at the time, North Georgetown. It was hard getting across the Key bridge and getting home, but I made it. I then walked back to the Key bridge and watched as the Pentagon burned. We all know the rest of the story. I'll never forget.
